I’ve attended a good number of training sessions and short skills courses during my career at London Calling and elsewhere, and Tom’s TWI workshop on negotiation skills remains one of the most consistently useful touchpoints that I actively refer back to still, both in my own working practise and in passing on knowledge to my own team. Tom’s approach to negotiation practise is strongly slanted towards a win-win approach, something which I also value greatly, although this isn’t to say you would find yourself underequipped in tougher negotiations, simply that you would approach these from a different, more positive frame of mind and thus would find yourself more confident of a mutually positive result even if the person on the other side of the table isn’t inclined to play along.
