Tom recently delivered an extremely powerful unconscious bias session for the University of Southampton’s, Executive Learning Partnership. Tom often tackles subjects that are potentially challenging and this session was a tremendous example, as the subject matter is often seen as contentious. The audience of senior executives and seasoned professionals could easily have become defensive at the thought of being in any way biased. However, Tom navigated the subject matter with skill and fluency. He left the audience with real insights and practical tools to mitigate bias in their day-to-day professional interactions. The key to success of these sessions Is Tom’s deep understanding of neuroscience and presenting unconscious bias with rigour and relevance. Tom ‘depersonalised’ the subject so the audience did not become defensive, but instead ‘owned’ their biases. Tom always gives the audience the tools not only to understand the subject at hand but also to improve their decision-making and productivity by becoming aware and mitigating their unconscious biases. The feedback from those attending the session was excellent. It was a fascinating workshop and also highly implementable.”
